Innovation Based on Mathematics and Informatics

MiD-Lab has started as a new research group of the department of strategic studies, institute of engineering innovation and department of mechanical engineering at the University of Tokyo on March 1st, 2020. We construct a novel theory of design engineering based on mathematics, mechanics, and informatics. Additionally, we study applications for mechanical products by using our theories. At present, we focus on the following topics.

  • ● Going beyond the framework of topology optimization to the generation of mechanical systems
  • ● An integrated theory of mechanics, design, and manufacturing
  • ● Discover extraordinary devices and materials

To Join Us

For international students who are considering enrolling in a master's program

We are looking for highly motivated students with extremely high academic ability in mathematics and mechanics to join our laboratory. Master's students can receive education through top-level research activities with the goal of publishing papers in several top international journals as the first author. The details of the graduiate program for non-Japanese students are here. Two master's students will be enrolled in our laboratory starting in the fall of 2021.

For post-doctoral researchers

We have a postdoc opening for a research projects on topology optimization and its applications using JSPS postdoctoral fellowship. Candidates with experience in applied mathematics and computational mechanics are particularly welcome to apply. Please contact us with CV if you are interested in working with us.
